RGD recognised a long time ago that we need to be designing and constructing buildings today that will meet the needs of clients and occupants well into the future, and future needs include the need to reduce both construction and operational impacts on the environment.
We already incorporate many sustainable initiatives into our projects, but we also recognise that because new technologies, materials and innovations are being developed everyday this commitment is a process, not a destination. It’s a process of constantly reviewing and striving for better sustainable outcomes in our building and our business practices.
So what have we done to demonstrate our commitment to sustainable development?
Well, in partnership with Excel Development Group we have delivered the Sunshine Coast’s first Certified Green Star Project called ‘The Edge’ at Lake Kawana. This project presented many opportunities to improve our site operational systems and practices. One of those opportunities was to improve our on site construction waste recycling methods so that by the end of the project RGD Constructions had achieved a total recycled construction waste content of 69% (calculated by weight) – achieving significantly more than our 60% target.
But we aren’t going to stop there. We’ve learnt a lot from this project and the lessons learnt have accelerated our progress towards delivering better sustainable outcomes, outcomes that we are committed to incorporating into all future projects.
